So I brought my guitar to Tokyo Blue’s gig at Sultan Jazz Club thinking of jamming some tunes and Eugene Pao was there with his band (sorry I don’t know the band name and the rest of the members’ names!). So we had a little jam session and I lent Eugene my guitar. It’s a Yamaha YG1212 strung with 9s with rather low action. The problem I have some times with this guitar is that the tone gets flubby when I dig in hard. No such thing when Eugene played. Despite being a ‘shred’ guitar, it didn’t sound ‘shred’ at all in his hands! The first song he played with his band was ‘Softly As In a Morning Sunrise’ and I didn’t know my guitar could sound that good! No flub that I always get, just good tone. And MONSTER phrasing! The whole band was on fire and I had a hard time putting my jaw back in place!
